ACTION POINTS for Committed Dads
From the National Center for Fathering weekly mailing.
● Reassure your children. Sit down with them, tell them what's going on, and let them know that you're going to be okay—even if your family has to make a few changes.
● At the next family gathering, make a list of things for which you are thankful.
● Tell your children about someone you know who demonstrated great poise and courage in the face of difficulties.
● "Do the work" by volunteering at your child's school. Consider our WATCH D.O.G.S. program as one great way to involve yourself and other dads.
● Are you re-evaluating your career options? Seek the counsel of other dads who know you well and will be honest with you about your strengths and weaknesses.
● An appropriate faith lesson for children comes from Matthew 7:24-27, about a wise man building his house on a rock instead of sand. Talk about why rock is better than sand, and make it clear that the firm foundation for your family is the Word of God.
