God is Watching

Children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, "Take only one, God is watching."

At the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. Moving through the line a boy wrote another note to leave by the cookies, "Take all you want, God is watching the apples."

Guardian Angel on the Job

A man was walking in the street when he heard a voice: "Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you." The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was astonished. He went on, and after awhile he was going to cross the road. Once again the voice shouted: "Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you and you will die." The man did as he was instructed, and a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him. "Where are you?" the man asked.

Glory Be Unto the Father

Walking by, a minister saw his 5-year-old son and playmates find a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, the children had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: "Glory be unto the Faaaather, and unto the Sonnn... and into the hole he gooooes."

No-Parking Zone

A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter. So he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 10 times. If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment. FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES." When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note: "I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job. LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION."

Where is God?

A couple had two little boys who were always getting into trouble. Their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their village, their sons were probably involved.

The boys' mother heard that an elder in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her sons. The elder agreed, but asked to see them separately.

Only in America

Things happen only in America...

1. Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to
the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people
can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America......do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

I'm bored and feel like playing, so I thought I'll start a simple game.

The rules are simple:  I will put in a quote from a movie.  If you know from which movie this came from, just post your answer, and then put a new quote for the next person to guess.  Let's see if we can keep the ball rolling, and if we know enough movie quotes to make this fun..

Let me start with something simple:

Military Wives

Any military wives here?  Where are ya from and where are you currently located??  I am from Houston, TX and currently live in the lost and forgotten town of Yakima, WA!!  Very different than what I am used to!  And EXPENSIVE!!!!  I think Washington is such a ridiculously expensive state to live in!  And it doesn't help that the DOD can't get our BAH right because there has never been permanent party here in Yakima.  So...

Ways to get a firmer BUTT

Take the stairs instead of the elevator. It's the calorie-burning way to avoid awkward silences (or worse, accidental groping), children who press the buttons for all the floors, Muzak, and unnecessary energy use.

The Benefits
Buns of steel. No surprises here: Climbing stairs burns up to ten times more calories than standing in an elevator.
Step-by-step conservation. Depending on type, capacity and usage, an elevator's yearly energy use can equal that of seven homes.

GEORGE CARLIN

Does anyone on PL remember George Carlin?  He was so funny!  When I first saw his routine, he would act drunk and imitate a weather forcaster.  He was "introduced" (in his act) as "The Hippy Dippy Weather Man".  He actually was on drugs most of the time, then later in life (maybe 10 years ago) he was the "conductor" on Thomas the Train Cartoons(?), or enima.  I was so shocked to read today that he died over the week-end (6:00pm on Sunday).
