This monument is in South Dakota about ten miles away from Mt. Rushmore.
Crazy Horse Memorial, Black Hills, South Dakota

The Crazy Horse Memorial was started June 3rd, 1948 to honor the Northe American Indians.
Crazy Horse was the only chief who did not surrender nor sign a peace treaty with the United States.
This sculpture is to be world’s largest mountain sculpture. To put it in perspective, when completed, Mount Rushmore would fit in one eye ball of the Craze Horse Monument.
There is no government funding involved in the project. This allows them to do as they wish, on their own schedule. As you can imagine, this also creates a tight budget.
No one really knows when this project will be completed. It may take an additional 50 years or more…

I was there when you couldn't distinguish any part of the monument. Now you can definitely see the face of the chief. It will be a sight to behold when it is done. I want to go back up there sometime and see in person what it actually looks like. I saw it in the beginning stages. I want to see the later part of the monument.
